It's pretty popular for the U.S. spec guys to do a K-27 swap on the older 70s and 80s 911/930 turbos. Although a lot of these guys are happy, if you look at the dyno sheets the suckers will build boost slowly and then peak and drop off, thermal efficiency is horrible on the KKKs. Now you may ask why the hell everyone goes with the K-27? Well, the rest-of-world spec 911 turbos came with these turbos so the U.S. guys figure they're doing an OEM sort of thing by bolting them on. On top of all this, as soon as you have the turbo broken in and having fun rebuild time is coming up. I'm just trying to add some of the info i've gathered on this stuff, by no means am i an expert like Mike.
